Nutritional & Exercise Counseling

Nutritional & Exercise CounselingExercise and Nutrition play a vital role in everyone's overall health. Many patients find relief of their chronic pain by changing their diet and introducing physical exercise into their routine. All patients achieve optimal wellness when they take an active approach to their own health. When addressing your overall health Chiropractic Care is one aspect which helps greatly, patients who can also incorporate proper nutrition and exercise will have the best results.

Many patients who experience chronic pain or digestive issues have some nutritional imbalance. At Derry Chiropractic we understand that in today's society it is very difficult to eat properly and obtain the nutrients that our bodies need in order to thrive. A usual North American diet is sufficient to prevent overt vitamin deficiency diseases such as scurvy, pellagra, and beriberi. However, insufficient vitamin intake can be the cause of chronic diseases. Recent evidence has shown that suboptimal levels of vitamins, even well above those causing deficiency syndromes, are risk factors for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis. A large proportion of the general population is at increased risk for this reason.

We offer counseling on nutrition and exercise to all of our patients that are interested in improving their health. Our patients have the option of purchasing vitamins and supplements to enhance their overall nutrition. The supplements that are recommended are heavily researched and are received from scientifically based companies that provide pharmaceutical grade products. Many individuals are overwhelmed when they walk into the vitamin stores and many of the employees are not educated properly on supplementation. We will help take the guess work out and help you incorporate what you need. My focus on nutrition is to eat whole foods and supplement as needed, less is more. Much of the food we eat is under-nourished because the soil in which our food is grown is depleted of essential nutrients. This is why vitamin D has been added to milk, and folate (folic acid) to cereal. This helps the general population obtain more vitamins and minerals that we need. However, with the trend in "eating on the go," many people still do not obtain the proper levels.

Making exercise a part of your daily life is very important to help lead a healthy and pain-free life. There are many different forms of exercise and choosing the appropriate routine for your needs can be difficult. Many of us do the same workouts day in and day out which can get very boring the results can be few and far between. Knowing when to change the routine and what to change can keep the monotony to a minimum and the results at the highest level. We would love to help with all of these aspects if you would like to take part in a healthy lifestyle.

We would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding diet and exercise!
